Your body is never wrong. The clothing is.

This is what my mother Teresa used to say to every woman who apologised for her body in forty years of fitting, making and altering clothing in her home atelier on Lake Maggiore. That sentence is the foundation of everything I do.

I make bespoke and made-to-measure clothing for women. Every garment begins from one conviction: the pattern must serve the body, not the other way around.

7 Chiltern Street, Marylebone — and wherever you are most yourself.

Me at 10 months old, held by my mother, on Lake Maggiore.

WHO I AM

I grew up watching my mother make clothing for the women in our town

In Baveno on the shore of Lake Maggiore, Teresa ran her home atelier for nearly forty years. She was not a designer, she was a maker, couturier who never once asked a woman to fit the pattern fit the woman. The principle she worked from has not changed in all the years since; your body is never wrong, the clothing is.

I carried her teaching to London. I studied at Central School of Fashion. I trained in Savile Row, with Tommy Nutter, where I first learned that rigour in the cut is not a constraint on beauty. It is the condition of it. I opened my first atelier at 73A Bond Street with my own small manufacture in the London Borough.

Over two decades, I worked as a designer and product developer, from luxury and premium to high street. Where I watch, season after season, what happens when fit and making are overruled by production costs.

I work now from 7 Chiltern Street in Marylebone; I can come to you wherever you are most at ease (most yourself). Your home, your office, your hotel when you are in London. Because the conversation and fitting should happen where you are most yourself.

THE PHILOSOPHY

Five principles that guide every garment I make

Artigianato

The art and knowledge of making by hand. Not as nostalgia — as epistemology. The understanding that lives in the fingers before it reaches the mind. The intelligence that cannot be replicated by a system that has removed the hands from the process.

Sprezzatura

Making the difficult look effortless. The hidden hours that create the appearance of ease. The construction detail that only your body knows about — because it was put there for you, not for the photograph.

Fare Bella Figura

Not looking good for others. Being right in yourself. The difference between a woman who enters a room hoping to be noticed and a woman who enters knowing she is already complete. Respect for yourself expressed through how you show up.

Disinvoltura

The ease that arrives when fit is exactly right. Not the ease of not caring — the ease of everything being precisely where it should be. The particular grace of a woman whose clothing was made for the body she actually has.

Conoscenza del Corpo

Knowledge of the body. The understanding that accumulates through decades of designing, pattern making, fitting, adjusting, observing across over thirty years. Not from database, but from hands on fabrics and eyes on bodies that are always without exemption correct.

THE TRAINING

What Three Decades Inside the Luxury, Premium and High Street Market Taught Me

Savile Row

TOMMY NUTTER LINEAGE • 19 SAVILE ROW

A cut is either right or it is not. The discipline of doing what is right in every seam, whether anyone notices or not. The Row taught me that precision is not a constraint on beauty. It is the condition of it.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Genuine excellence, and the moment I first watched a pattern that honoured the body get simplified for production efficiency. I witnessed the exact moment fashion shifted from an art form into an industrialised production business and understood what it cost and the consequences.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Beauty deployed in service of image rather than body. Brilliant, in its way. But not my mother's language. I carried her principle through every fitting and felt the difference.

CP Company / Stone Island

DESIGN & FABRICS DEVELOPMENT

What happens when making is treated as philosophy, the obsession with process, not the surface of how a garment is structurally made. I learned that the garment thinks, and that thinking must begin with the choice of material, fabric engineering, and performance. The understanding that the garment is a system and every element of the system serves the body or fails it.

Where I became a witness. The fit solution was overruled by the cost. The pattern compromised to hit the FOB price. Women walking out of fitting rooms convinced their bodies were wrong. I watched the industry manufacture the problem and sell the cure.

WRITING

The Sunday Conversation

WednesdayFridaySunday

For over thirty years I have been inside the fashion system — measuring it, serving it, watching it choose the wrong thing when the right thing was inconvenient. These essays are what that accumulation of witness looks like when it finally reaches the page.

I write on Substack every Sunday. On beauty. On the body. On what the craft knows that the industry has decided to forget. On the gap between what clothing is supposed to do and what it has been made to do instead.

The conversation is open. The question at the end of each essay is genuine. I would like to know your answer.

HOW IT WORKS

I work from 7 Chiltern Street. I fit you wherever you are most yourself.

The making happens at 7 Chiltern Street in Marylebone — the patterns, the cutting, the construction. The fitting happens wherever you are most yourself. Your home. Your office. Your hotel when you are in London.

In the oldest tradition of the craft, the most distinguished tailors went to their clients. The royal warrant holders attended at the palace. The Parisian couturières fitted in private salons and grand residences. A fixed shopfront served walk-in trade. Private attendance was reserved for those who expected discretion — and for the maker who understood that fit is not only about how the garment hangs still on your body. It is about how it moves when you move. How you sit. How you reach. How you live.

I can only understand that in the place where you live it.

THE TRADITION OF PRIVATE ATTENDANCE

The most exclusive service has never required a shopfront

Your Space, Your Truth

A fitting in your own home reveals how you actually move. How you sit at your desk. How you reach for your child. How you stand when you are not performing for anyone. The garment must honour all of it — not just the version of you that can be seen in a shop mirror.

"In my mother's atelier, the women came to her. But for her most private clients — the ones who needed discretion — she went to them. That tradition is older than Savile Row."

Everything Travels

I arrive with everything required: fabric samples from the mills that supply the Paris couture houses. Measurement tools refined over 39 years of practice. Toiles for fitting. The entire capacity of the atelier — distilled to what matters. The maker, the cloth, and you.

London and surrounding counties. Further afield by arrangement. No element of the experience is diminished by the journey.

Complete Privacy

No reception. No other clients. No waiting room. No mirrors in which you perform for an audience. Just you and the person making your clothes, in the space where you are most honestly yourself. Where the real fitting can happen.

Particular value for clients who require discretion, have limited scheduling flexibility, or simply prefer the intimacy of a private consultation.

WHAT I MAKE

Clothing that honours your body. Not the other way around.
